What to say when someone calls you Pollyanna

Thank you.

Now go read the book, or watch the movie, about Pollyanna.

In that story, you have a community that’s been torn apart. There is hate, there is fear, there is pain, and there is polarization.

Where there is hate, Pollyanna brings love. Where there is fear, she displays courage. Where there’s pain, she fosters healing. And where people are divided, she brings them together.

What, I ask, could possibly be wrong with that? Isn’t that what our families, our organizations, our communities, and our nation need today more than anything else?

So thank you for calling me Pollyanna. I consider that the highest compliment.

Now, why don’t you join me. Put on some rose-colored binoculars yourself, and let’s work toward a more positive and optimistic future together.
